Vehicles must display orange plates on the front and rear, and freight containers must be labelled with the appropriate class placards on all four sides. Vehicles carrying Class 1 (explosives) and Class 7 (radioactive substances) also need to display hazard diamonds (at the rear and both sides), in addition to orange plates when carrying above the relevant load thresholds. 

The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 (CDG 2009) are UK-specific rules that align with the ADR framework. Section 1.1.3 of the ADR details these exemptions, which may pertain to factors like the quantity of goods transported or packaging methods.

"Limited quantities" refer to small amounts of dangerous goods packaged in a way that poses a reduced risk during transport. Common in retail products like perfumes, these items are subject to less stringent ADR requirements. However, certain marking and documentation obligations still apply, depending on the specific goods and quantities involved.

• Transport Document:

This document, which is often the Dangerous Goods Notice (DGN), must be drawn up by the sender and provide details about the goods being transported, including the UN number, technical name, and packaging details. 

ADR Kit:

A properly equipped ADR kit bag on board the vehicle with first aid, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and other essential items may be required.

• Emergency Instructions in Writing:

Drivers must carry a 4-page document with general safety instructions, class-specific hazard information, and personal safety equipment details. These instructions are provided by the carrier and should be readily available in the driver's cab.
